Clint Dempsey: Tottenham Hotspurs' Newest American Superstar
Clint Dempsey has recently signed with Tottenham Hotspur. After a terribly long transfer saga, the American has finally sealed a move away from Craven Cottage. Liverpool Football Club initially showed a strong interest in Dempsey, but the stubborn superstar found himself in London for the 2012-13 season.
The move away from Fulham was a huge statement. By refusing to play, and demanding a move, Clint Dempsey has declared himself one of England's best players.
Although many criticized Dempsey for handling the situation in a childish manner, the American has procured a transfer that will bolster his status as a player, and allow him to play European Football—a must for any top-notch player.
Dempsey has arrived at Tottenham at the perfect time. The departure of Luka Modric and Van der Vaart created a massive opportunity for Spur's midfielders to showcase their abilities. Dempsey now has a chance to ally with teammate Gareth Bale to carry Tottenham into next years Champions League.
Clint was a great buy for Tottenham, and Liverpool ought to feel as though they have missed a large opportunity. As long as he is given ample playing time, Dempsey will develop into even more of a star for Tottenham, and could solidify his position as one of the top midfielders in England.
Despite the exit of a couple key players, I expect Tottenham to challenge for a Champions League position. Dempsey will be a player to keep an eye on throughout this season, and for the next few years to come.
