Mr. Wilf, Coach Childress, Why Is T.J Houshmandzadeh Not a Viking Yet?
This is a no-brainer for Minnesota. One of their most pressing needs isย a No. 1 receiver to perform opposite Berrian, andย Housh is basically begging Minnesota to sign him.
First, in an interview heย expressed greatย joy inย hearing AP's name and the possibility of playing withย him in Minnesota.ย Then, he narrows his list of teams down to four, a list in which the Vikings were on.ย
Finally,ย he visits Minnesota today, andย stillย noย deal???ย Can it be anymore cut andย dry for Mr.Wilf and company? Adding Houshmandzadeh would be an immediate improvement to a less thanย stellar offensive attack outside of AP and theย inconsistent home run threatย Berrian provides from time to time.ย

Pull the trigger already!!!
Theย opportunities that Housh and AP wouldย provide offensively for the Vikingsย are very intriguing. It opens up the box for Adrian to run a bit more freely, allowing him to dominate and control a game even more than he already does.ย
Instead of defenses beating the Vikes by simply loading upย the box with eight or nine defenders every playย andย effectively containing AP for most of theย game,ย the newly assembled passing attackย of Housh, Berrian, and Wade would demand respect from even the best group ofย defensive backs.
Which wouldย transform our one-dimensional offense, into a rather athletic, competitive, serious, and talented offensive juggernaut.
Houshmandzadeh's assets are a perfect fit for usย hopeful and always optimisticย Viking faithful.ย Some might say he'sย not worth the No. 1 money he is asking for, maybe because of his age or his slightย drop off in statistics in '08,ย butย Houshmandzadeh is a playmaker, and that's theย bottom line.
He is a playmaker that I believe will be the answer to all the questions of inconsistency from Minnesota's underachieving receiving corps.
Minnesota's offense has only beenย so-so since acquiring Adrian Peterson from OU two years ago. While no one is questioning "All Day" AP's talent, he can only carry the Vikings for so long before his backย becomes shotย from carrying 10 other men onย it forย the last fewย years.
The numbersย Housh hasย put up in recent years, even last year, which granted wasn't his best year, are still well above those of anyย other Minnesota receiver since the departure of the infamousย Randy Moss in '04.ย
While Berrian did have 60 more receiving yards than Housh,ย Berrian's 48 receptions wereย nearly doubledย by Houshmandzadeh's 94ย in '08.ย
While neither broke the 1000 yardย mark, Houshmandzadeh'sย career average of 11.4 YPC, his raw ability to score touchdowns, and his career average of 64 receptions per seasonย make himย the immediate No. 1, serious threat,ย andย possession receiver thatย Minnesota needs to command respect in the secondary.
It alsoย ensures at least an averageย season from the still largely unproven but likely starter in '09,ย Sage Rosenfels. At age 31, Houshmandzadeh is experienced, though maybe a couple years older than I'd like, but no one can deny his talent and level of skill he playsย at every day in practice and every Sunday.
If there is any hope forย the Minnesota faithful andย ourย playoff problems, Houshmandzadeh would mostย definitely answer some of our postseason questions. He will make the entire team better, offense and defense. He will challenge the DB's to be betterย every time they line up against him in practice.ย
Housh will give 100 percent every single day, every Sunday.ย He is a leader, something Minnesota could benefit from on offense,ย heย loves playing the game.ย Even at the ripe age of 31, he still has at least three to five great years ahead of him.
On behalf of all the Viking fans and players, I greatly encourage you, Mr. Wilf,ย toย PLEASE spendย the money that it will take andย that we obviously haveย to bring in a serious playmaker on offense, like Houshmandzadeh,ย that will slingshot the Vikings and all their faithful fans and supporters into Super Bowl XLIV!!!!!
