Don’t be surprised if the Dallas Cowboys (2-1) fail to impress in their final preseason game against the Miami Dolphins (0-3) at Cowboys Stadium on Wednesday night, as they will likely be focused on their regular season opener versus the New York Giants a week later.

The Cowboys are listed as three-point home favorites in the NFL betting odds (courtesy of SBR Forum) in this non-conference matchup, while the total has been sent out at 38.

Sports bettors will notice that the New Orleans Saints and Green Bay Packers both failed to cover the spread in their final exhibition contest before participating in last year’s NFL Kickoff event.

Dallas head coach Jason Garrett is going to be extremely busy over the next week, which will likely lead to America’s Team falling to 0-4 against the spread (ATS) during preseason play at home under his watch.

The Cowboys came away with a 20-19 victory over the St. Louis Rams as 5.5-point home favorites in Week 3 of the 2012 NFL preseason, as they won the statistical battle by a 144-yard margin.

Miami has one more opportunity to avoid a winless preseason under first-year head coach Joe Philbin, who has watched his team get outscored by a 66-30 margin in the first three games.

The Dolphins definitely hold an advantage over their opponent in terms of preparation for this contest, as they don’t play their regular season opener on the road against the Houston Texans until September 9.

I’m going to recommend a play on the road underdog in this spot, especially with the Cowboys going 19-35 as a preseason favorite since 1990.

Pick: Miami Dolphins +3
