2012 has been a year in which we have seen a steady amount of quality wrestling with a few feuds that have gotten wrestling fans buzzing. Pro Wrestling Illustrated does a list where they rank their top 500 wrestlers of the year from all companies around the world. Their research is very in-depth and the list is usually spot on with the wrestling community.

When PWI announced the top 500 this month, some fans were surprised to see certain superstars ranked either too high or too low, but the one fact that most fans have agreed on is that CM Punk rightfully deserves to be No. 1 on the list.

CM Punk was a superstar who really had fallen hard just this past summer and wasn't getting the opportunities to take his talent to the next level. Before his breakout run in July of last year, Punk had put over talent like Rey Mysterio, Randy Orton, The Undertaker, Big Show and others. The only problem was that very few times did the WWE allow him to run with the ball and get his push towards stardom.

All of that changed at Money In The Bank.

When Punk won the WWE Championship and "left" the company, he instantly became an overnight sensation with fans. Punk's return to the company was welcomed and, since he came back, Punk has been on fire.

2012 has been the year of CM Punk and he deserves the award of being the best in the world. If you do not believe me, just look at the classic matches he has had this year alone:

CM Punk vs. Dolph Ziggler at Royal Rumble

Who do you think should have been ranked No. 1 on PWI's Top 500 List?

CM Punk vs. Chris Jericho at WrestleMania 28 and Extreme Rules

CM Punk vs. Daniel Bryan at Over The Limit and Money In The Bank

The run that Punk has been on is legendary, in my opinion, as he took the company to another level in his nine-month WWE title reign. Punk's promos are excellent, his matches keep fans on the edge of their seats and his ability to change up his character while being champion are all reasons why he deserves to be the No. 1 guy in the industry.

I believe that CM Punk is one of the best pure wrestlers the industry has ever seen, but now he is finally getting the credit that he deserves by being named the No. 1 wrestler in the entire world. I feel that Punk will continue to dominate Raw and we might see CM Punk stay on top of the wrestling world for years to come.
