WWE SummerSlam 2012 Results: What Antonio Cesaro Beating Santino Means
Antonio Cesaro gained his first major title at SummerSlam when he defeated Santino for the US Title during the live pre-show.
What exactly does this mean for Cesaro and the US Title?
It means we might finally see the US Title get some much-deserved attention instead of being ignored like it has been for the past few months.
I am a Santino supporter, I really am, but his US Title reign was more of a joke than David Arquette's World Title reign.
OK, so maybe it wasn't that bad, but still...
Cesaro is someone who could bring a bit of prestige back to the title that once elevated some of the greatest superstars of all time towards the World Title.
I expect Santino to get a rematch this week, be unsuccessful and then move on to something else while Cesaro moves on to feud with someone else.
Perhaps his match with Christian on a recent Raw will set up a feud between the two. Christian has not yet held the US title and adding it to his already-impressive list of accomplishments would make him one of the most decorated champions in WWE history.
Christian has held the IC, World, every kind of Tag Team Title, Light Heavyweight, European, Hardcore and ECW Titles. The US Title and the WWE Title are the only jewels missing from an epic run which has seen him hold 20 titles in WWE alone.
Who should Cesaro feud with next?
Holding the US Title will bring the spotlight onto Cesaro, and with the capable roster SmackDown has, I have no doubt that he will find a worthy opponent soon.
If not Christian, then perhaps it could be Sin Cara, Rey Mysterio or even Kofi Kingston or R-Truth, should they lose the tag titles sometime soon.
I am looking forward to what WWE has in store for Antonio Cesaro because he has the potential to be a major player in WWE.
He has the right look, size and skill to be elevated to the main-event scene within a year or two and hopefully Kassius Ohno can join him at some point and give Indy wrestling fans a little Kings of Wrestling reunion.
What do you think of Antonio Cesaro as the new US champion?
