Seattle Mariners: Should They Think about Trading Kevin Millwood?

If the Seattle Mariners are interested in putting veteran starting pitcher Kevin Millwood on waivers and eventually trading him, it seems that he might generate some interest.
Nick Carfardo of the Boston Globe talked to an unnamed scout about the 37-year-old right-hander.
“He’s got ice water in his veins and he knows how to get big outs,” said a veteran scout. “A guy like that isn’t going to do the Mariners any good going forward but he could solidify a rotation.”
He is definitely having a difficult season for the Seattle Mariners with a 4-10 record and a 4.28 ERA.
However, this scout could have been thinking about some of the success that Millwood had earlier in his career in postseason appearances.
Over his career, he has a 0.944 WHIP and a 3.92 ERA in playoff baseball. Those numbers are probably even inflated a little bit, because he had one tough start in the 1999 World Series against the New York Yankees in which he allowed four earned runs in only two innings.
Of course, all of his postseason success came at least 10 years ago. He hasn't been on a playoff-caliber team since 2002, but he still seemed to have a pretty good knack for pitching in those big games at that time in his career.
Of course, this is just the opinion of one scout, so there may not necessarily be a huge interest in Millwood. However, teams paid premiums for starting pitchers at the trade deadline, so it seems that there might be other customers who need more starting pitching as well.
