Look who's back for his WWE return.
It's that time again where all the superstars of the WWE meet on Sunday night in Staples Center in Los Angeles for SummerSlam 2012.
Many superstars will take the ring on this showcase, but there's one superstar that's been taking most of the attention.
John Cena will be in a three-man battle for the WWE Championship against The Big Show and CM Punk. All three men will fight against one another simultaneously, and the first man to score a pin fall or submission wins the match. Cena has not held the belt since Night of Champions, which was back in 2011.
What led to the Triple Threat match is this:
- During Raw 1000, Cena cashed in the Money in the Bank contract against CM Punk, but Big Show came in to interrupt Cena's plan. Therefore, Cena didn't win the title outright.
- That next week, Big Show and Cena fought off against one another and were taken down against CM Punk.
- Therefore, RAW General Manager AJ Lee set this match up to settle who is the outright champion.
The Triple Threat match is one of out of eight in Los Angeles.
Santino Marella and Antonio Cesaro will square off for the U.S. Championship in a dark match before the showcases begin.
One showcase match is between Triple H and Brock Lesnar. What led to this fight is that several weeks ago, shortly after a long retirement from the WWE, Lesnar challenged Triple H in the ring and broke his arm. Triple H didn't take that too kindly.
Triple H would then challenge Lesnar to a match at SummerSlam, but Lesnar kept declining the invitation. After being coaxed by his wife, Lesnar finally accepted the match invite.
Who wins the Triple Threat Match?
The World Heavyweight Title match includes Champion Sheamus and Alberto Del Rio. Del Rio hired "friends" dressed as cops—last week—to beat up Sheamus to intentionally injure him, and force him to sit out of tonight's fight. After coaxing SmackDown GM Booker T to put the fight back on, the show will continue following the Triple Threat match.
Love gets in the way of the battle involving Kane and Daniel Bryan. Lee became General Manager after standing Bryan up at the altar and later forced him to go under psychiatric evaluation. Kane later then beat him in a battle, which leads to this rematch.
Chris Jericho and Dolph Ziggler will face off in a non-title bout, which might be a cause of concern for Jericho. He hasn't won on pay-per-view since his recent return to WWE.
The Intercontinental Championship match includes The Miz and Rey Mysterio. Mysterio is making his first appearance in over a year.
R-Truth and Kofi Kingston will face off against Darren Young and Titus O' Neil for the Tag Team Championship.
