It has been quite awhile since a Manchester United transfer has so shook the corridors at Old Trafford.
But Robin van Persie's arrival at his new club provoked instantaneous reactions from a number of United players, all of whom seemed delighted with their new teammate.
Michael Carrick was one of the first to respond when the deal was confirmed, revealing how the news had broken whilst he was on duty for the England national team (via ESPN).
"Someone mentioned in the dressing room about Van Persie and if it goes through, it will be brilliant," he said after helping England to a 2-1 win over Italy on Wednesday.
"He had a terrific season and he will further strengthen our squad. He is a world-class player and we have always been about bringing in players of that ability."
Tom Cleverley was then asked for his opinion, adding that "Obviously he's a great player and he'll only make us stronger."
Defender Rio Ferdinand was a little more cautious when reacting to the news in an interview with British magazine FourFourTwo (h/t Daily Mail).
"There's been many a player that's come to Manchester United and not met expectations," he said.
"Expectations here are higher than anywhere in the world, some do brilliantly and some don't fare quite so well."
However Ferdinand was quick to add, "I've got no worries about Robin though."
United players will no doubt be excited to link up with van Persie when the player arrives for training later this week.
The Dutchman is expected to make his debut for his new club on Monday evening against Everton.
