WWE SummerSlam 2012: Why Ziggler vs. Jericho Is Real Main Event of SummerSlam
Triple H vs. Brock Lesnar is one of the most highly-anticipated matches taking place at SummerSlam. It is considered by many to be the main event of the evening. Whether or not it lives up to the hype remains to be seen. However, the match that really deserves main event status is Dolph Ziggler vs. Chris Jericho.
Chris Jericho is at a stage in his career where he can still deliver high-caliber matches. In Dolph Ziggler, he has found a rival who will bring out the best in him, perhaps giving us one of the best matches this year. In Chris Jericho, Ziggler has found a rival who will help propel him to the next level, preparing him for his eventual run as World Heavyweight Champion.
There's a lot more at stake for Ziggler than Jericho. Should Ziggler suffer a loss to Jericho, it may cast doubt on whether or not Ziggler deserves a run with the title.
This year alone, Ziggler has had opportunities to face both CM Punk and Sheamus for their respective titles, only to come up short. Did he deserve those opportunities? No doubt about it, but there is a difference between being champion and being the challenger. He's made a great challenger, but will he be a better champion?
Right now, Ziggler is in his prime. A victory over Jericho will cement his status as a major player capable of winning big-match situations. Ziggler is in need of this victory.
Jericho has nothing to prove anymore. Like so many of his contemporaries—Shawn Michaels, Triple H and The Undertaker—Jericho has managed to stay relevant and remains a favorite among the fans. What's important to him at this stage of his career is going out and having top-notch performances. That's the entertainer in him. He will not let Ziggler outshine him. He can't; his pride won't let him.
Dolph Ziggler vs. Chris Jericho will deliver. Yes, do believe the hype!
