One of the more intriguing matches, if not one of the most overlooked matches taking place at SummerSlam, will be The Miz defending the Intercontinental title against Rey Mysterio. I say "overlooked" because it was announced at the last moment, making it seem almost as if it were a toss-away match. This match is far from being a toss-away, though, considering the participants involved and what's at stake.
On paper, this might seem like a mismatch.
Rey Mysterio is one of the best performers in the business, despite being on the shelf for a year. So far, he hasn't lost a step. He even has a non-title victory over The Miz, defeating him on SmackDown. The Miz, despite being the Intercontinental Champion, hasn't been impressive since winning the title. Not only has he suffered a non-title loss to Mysterio, but he lost to Kane as well.
In actuality, this match promises to be one of the best on the card.
The Miz is dangerous and should not be overlooked. Despite a non-title loss to Mysterio, Miz proved he could keep up with him during their match. Taking into consideration that he just won the title a few weeks ago on the 1,000th episode of Raw, Miz isn't quite ready to give up the Intercontinental Championship or to be written off by the fans.
Mysterio hasn't lost a step, but let's not forget that he has suffered a number of injuries over the years that have caught up to him. His age is also a factor. Rey remains a threat, but not the threat he use to be.
This match could be the start of a program between the two, depending on the outcome. One can only hope this leads to something bigger. Given enough time, their matches could be classics.
Whatever the case, this match is a must-see.
