Kansas Jayhawks: Final Four Bound?

Mike OrtegaFeb 25, 2009

The Kansas Jayhawks have vastly improved since their loss to Michigan State in early January.

The young guns have improved to an all new height and the veterans can now almost relax as they approach the Big 12 Tournament.

Some have given the team little credit after going into Oklahoma and winning over the Blake Griffen-less Sooners.

What they didn't see, however, was how the young players stepped up. Sherron Collins and Brady Morningstar, who usually play good on the road, were struggling.  Tyshawn Taylor and company came to the rescue and pulled out a tremendous first half.

Kansas made Oklahoma turn the ball over 16 times, and showed how well they can defend on and off the ball.

The strength I see in the young Jayhawks team is the leadership they have from Collins and Aldrich. Yes, it's only two players, but through them they let their leadership flow to the young kids. Even when the team is down the two remain composed.

With a nice defensive stop, Kansas can quickly get back into a game and run the table. Their blanketing defense is what has always made this Kansas squad what it is.

The Jayhawks pride themselves on their defense and holding the other team under 50 percent shooting.

Everyone is saying that the youth of this team is their Achilles heel.

I don't believe that at all.

The young kids have already stepped up in a huge way since the beginning of the season.

The only thing this team needs to worry about is that the target they have on their back.

Kansas has always had this target because of the rich tradition of solid players they recruit.

The Jayhawks can block, defend, shoot the three, and post up. I don't see very many weaknesses except the fact that the team gets complacent when up on opponents.

It happened in Missouri and it happened in Oklahoma.

Kansas fans can rest easy as the NCAA tournament arrives. I can see this squad going deep into the bracket.

Championship bound?

I don't know, but I see a Final Four game in the future.
