Booker T is the new GM of Smackdown. It's a great decision by Vince McMahon, but Booker may have made a fatal mistake by cancelling the world heavyweight title match at Summerslam between Sheamus and Alberto Del Rio.

The biggest issue of this match is that Del Rio would have to go higher than Booker T to keep his title shot. However, it's unlikely that he would do that, as it could lead to a power struggle at the top of Smackdown between a newly appointed GM.

While having the wrestlers get over is one thing, the GM needs to be over with the crowd even more as someone who holds the power to make both matches and decisions. To have Del Rio go above Booker's head no more than a month into his term would be disastrous for any authority he is supposed to have.

Top Candidates

Starting out, there are the usual suspects of Randy Orton and Rey Mysterio. However, they have been suspended recently and the WWE doesn't like to give people who are on their third strike a WWE title push, as it could mean an instant stripping of the title if they are caught again.

That leaves the second tier. There's the typical faces in Christian and Santino Marella, but with Sheamus as a face, it doesn't make sense at all. Other options could include Jack Swagger, Mark Henry and Wade Barrett.

However, Henry is still recovering from injury. Swagger has been nothing but a glorified jobber lately, and Wade Barrett has still yet to return to action after his recent injury. They could also just have this Del Rio cancellation as part of the storyline.

What about Money in the Bank Winner Dolph Ziggler?

He's got a match with Chris Jericho as a send-off to the Canadian star and will be holding onto his briefcase for at least another month. It wouldn't shock anyone to see him cash it in if Sheamus goes through a war with his challenger as a way to close the show. It's just unlikely.

WWE has been known to surprise, though, and could decide that a triple threat match between the three superstars would be the best idea. But I wouldn't count those chickens before they hatch.

Possible Storyline Idea

One idea could be that Del Rio is still in the hunt despite his actions and has to win another No. 1 contender's match with Randy Orton this time. Orton loses based on the actions of Sheamus, thus setting up a feud between the two after SummerSlam.

At SummerSlam, however, Booker T decides to add one stipulation to the match: lumberjacks. By having the lumberjacks there that Booker has handpicked, it makes it so that the match can take place without a hitch and Del Rio isn't able to have his rent-a-cops attack Sheamus again.
