FC Cologne vs. Arsenal: Lukas Podolski Shows He Is Ready to Replace RVP
The German forward joined the club this summer and is already showing fans what he can do with two goals against his former team. He scored on a penalty shot in the 15th minute and then followed that up with a strong goal later in the first half.
By the time he was replaced in the 69th minute the game was effectively over, as Arsenal finished with a 4-0 win.
It will not be as easy for Podolski to score in the English Premier League, but he showed the skill that made the team want to add him during the transfer window.
He also showed a glimpse into what can happen in life after van Persie. The Dutch star was the focal point of the Gunners' offense last season, as he led the league with 30 goals. Unfortunately, fans will likely not be seeing that again.
After announcing on his personal website that he will not re-sign with the team following the season, the club has been looking to sell their star player in order to get something in return for his services. Based on the backlash of the fans, it would be best if he leaves sooner rather than later.
According to ESPN, Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is increasing his efforts to sign the talented striker. The report says that the powerhouse club is likely to offer around £20 million to acquire van Persie this season.

Fans might want RVP out of town, but the next step is replacing his offense. Even with him, Arsenal had a lot to go to match Manchester United and Manchester City. Fortunately, the newest additions look like they will be useful.
Olivier Giroud from France has great size and should be able to contribute right away. However, it is Podolski who will have to take over the scoring load. He scored 18 in 29 league games last year, and is an important contributor for the German national team.
Now, he needs to show he can replicate this type of performance in one of the toughest leagues in the world.
It will be an uphill battle, but Podolski has the experience and talent to lead the offense and take Arsenal towards the top of the league table.
