Manchester United Transfer News: Adding RVP Would Make United EPL Favorites
If Manchester United is able to add Robin Van Persie to its attack, it will become the odds-on favorite to win the Premier League.
The dynamic striker scored 37 goals in 48 appearances with Arsenal in the 2011-12 season and would obviously be the kind of player that could put last year's league runner-up over the top and in line for some major silverware this season.
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is hopeful that United will be able to add RVP, telling the Daily Mirror
"We have made a bid and they've been trying to negotiate with other clubs... We're not getting any breakthrough with Arsenal. It's difficult to say why they're operating this way.
"I don't know what their thoughts are, because they're not giving anything away."
A concern about adding Van Persie to an already loaded squad in Manchester United would be that the club already has a plethora of forwards that are capable of scoring. However, Man U forward Wayne Rooney is among the proponents of adding Van Persie, telling The Week that he thinks RVP would be a great fit with United:
"He'd be a great addition to the squad," replied Rooney when asked his thoughts on Van Persie, adding: "He's a player I admire. He has been amazing for Arsenal over many years." As for whether he reckoned he and Van Persie could form a lethal strikeforce, a smiling Rooney responded: "I'd like to think so - but you'd have to ask the manager."
With both Ferguson and Rooney on board, two men with a great understanding of the club would like to see Van Persie be added. Rooney has been with the club since 2004 and would have as good an idea as anyone as to what players would fit with the club and which wouldn't.
If United can find a way to bring the two strikers together, they would have one of the most formidable scoring duos in all of the EPL.
For a team that finished second last season, that should be enough to push the club over the top and make them the club to beat in the 2012-13 season.
