Arsenal Transfer Rumors: Arsene Wenger Would Be Crazy to Sell Alex Song
Remember the good old days, when rumors were flowing that Arsenal would add Yann M'Vila to play the holding midfielder role, allowing Alex Song to move further up the pitch? Remember when adding a holding midfielder was rumored to be a priority?
Well, according to the latest rumors, subtracting a holding midfielder—the intriguing Alex Song—might be on the cards for Arsenal. And according to those rumors, it's Barcelona that is sniffing around Song.

"Recent speculation has suggested that the Catalans could be interested in acquiring the defensive midfielder’s services, with Arsene Wenger reportedly considering selling and bringing in Real Madrid misfit Nuri Sahin as a replacement.
A fee of at least £15 million has been touted for the 24-year-old Cameroon international.
"
Let's call a spade a spade—that's crazy talk. Why the hell would Arsene Wenger agree to move Song, one of Arsenal's most improved players?
Okay, okay, so Song isn't perfect. He has a tendency to go forward too often—though often brilliantly, as his 11 assists last season prove—leaving the back four exposed.
On the other hand, he is a physical specimen who has the ability of a box-to-box midfielder, plays a mean through ball, and only needs to be more disciplined to put any questions about his ability as a holding midfielder to rest.
And would Wenger actually expect Sahin to be the replacement for Song? It's not that Sahin doesn't have the talent—despite a disappointing season at Real Madrid, his ability isn't in question—but he would only be coming on loan. It would be risky to sell Song and simply hope to be able to sign Sahin for the long term.
If Wenger could add Sahin on loan and bring in M'Vila, I would support the move, though I would certainly miss Song. But that seems like a long shot at best. As the team stands today, I would much rather see Song remain a Gunner.
Yes, I would like to see a bit more defensive discipline. But no, I don't want to see Song sold for that reason alone. He brings too much to the table to simply be discarded because one aspect of a well-rounded game needs to be improved upon.
