Why a WWE Cruiserweight Division Can Work Again

For awhile now the WWE has been without the cruiserweight title, and plenty of people seem to be fine with that.  Well not me.

I miss the days of WCW (never thought I would say that) when there was an amazing cruiserweight division.  The Guererros, Juventud, Mysterio, La Parka, Psychosis and even Jericho were all title holders and their matches were the best on the card.

Now WWE has decided that a lightweight title is not worth having. I disagree because the talent was there to support it.

Now the WWE has a new face for the lightweights in Evan Bourne.  Even though he has been off TV with an injury, I still think he could revitalize the cruiserweight title.

So Far this is the list of guys who could compete for the cruiserweight title in WWE at a 220lb limit: Rey Mysterio, Evan Bourne, Brian Kendrick (if he isn't released by then), Cody Rhodes, Chavo, Dolph Ziggler, Jamie Noble, Kofi Kingston, Gregory Helms, Jimmy wang Yang, Kung fu naki, Primo Colon, and Tyson Kidd.

Now granted not all of these guys are title belt material, but most of them are.

And with TNA's recent release of Petey Williams, he could come in and make a big name for himself, especially with that awesome finisher he has.

Overall, the WWE has usually buried its little guys, or in the case of Guererro and Benoit, pressured them to get bigger.  Mysterio is the exception because of his ridiculously high level of popularity.

I think the WWE would be well served in having the cruiserweight title on ECW where all its young talent seems to be starting out lately.  By having a tournament that could be capped off with a PPV match for the title, the WWE could really bring back the excitement of the old cruiserweight matches of WCW and ECW (the old one).

The guys I see being the biggest names who could bring the title back with a bang are Bourne and Petey Williams.

Petey Williams was released from his TNA contract recently which came as a huge surprise to many.  He was talented, over with the fans, and had a great look for a little guy.  His angle with Steiner was about as good as any angle with Steiner could have been, but he was also a team player through the years.  His finisher is great and is very rarely seen used by anyone else.

A few months back, the WWE had a match between Mysterio and Bourne on Raw that was more exciting than any other match of the night, and they got huge pops for every high risk move they pulled off.  Imagine if these types of matches happened all the time.

In my opinion, this is a sign that the WWE could do well with the cruiserweight again.

Do you agree or disagree? Let me know.
