Arsenal Transfer Rumors: Why Adding Nuri Sahin Is a Necessity for Gunners

Jessica MarieJun 7, 2018

While speculation regarding Robin Van Persie's future has dominated the majority of Arsenal's transfer news over the last several days, there's even more good news that could very soon emerge from the Gunners' camp.

According to Goal.com, Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho said he won't block a transfer that will send midfielder Nuri Sahin to Arsenal. And according to The Guardian, the Gunners just want an option to make the move permanent before everyone signs on the dotted lines.

The Guardian also reports that the Real Madrid midfielder is unhappy with Real because he didn't get enough playing time last season, and even during a recent exhibition matchup versus the L.A. Galaxy, he barely saw the field.

Sahin's displeasure hasn't been lost on his manager, who told The Guardian:

"

The point is that [Sahin] is a young boy, he wants to play every match […]. Real Madrid is very difficult. We have great players and, when you don't start well, it is difficult to do it.

We leave [the situation] in his hands. Decide what you want to decide, to be happy. If you decide to leave, we are going to help you to leave. If you decide to stay, we are going to support you and try to succeed this season.

"

Judging by Mourinho's comments, there doesn't seem to be much standing in the way of a move to Arsenal.

The only factor standing in the way of a move seems to be making sure the Gunners can get a guarantee that, if they want to keep Sahin, the move can become permanent once the 2012-13 season has expired.

This could evolve into an ideal situation for both Sahin and Arsenal. In Sahin, the Gunners get a 23-year-old playmaker with enormous potential who is so frustrated with his current situation that he is willing and ready to do whatever it takes in order to earn his playing time.

If a transfer does bring Sahin to Arsenal, the Gunners have a near-guarantee that Sahin is never going to play harder in his life than he will upon moving. And for a player who is "impressive at worst and amazingly influential at best," as Goal.com put it, that's a pretty big deal.

Meanwhile, it's ideal for Sahin because Arsenal—which currently boasts two injured midfielders in Jack Wilshere and Tomas Rosicky—can almost guarantee him a big chunk of regular playing time. And that seems to be all he really wants.

For a team that finished third in the Premier League last season—good enough, but still 19 points behind Manchester City and Manchester United—maintaining a formidable scoring attack is crucial. And with Wilshere and Rosicky out due to injury, it seems that Sahin can give Arsenal a way to do just that.

For now, Arsenal and Real need to make sure they do whatever they can to make this deal happen. If that means finding a way to secure an option that will make this a permanent move, the two sides need to make it happen.

It seems like both Real and Arsenal would be better off if Sahin ends up with the Gunners for the long term, anyway.
