While the men of Team USA basketball are getting all of the spotlight, we must not forget about the women who are looking for Olympic gold medals in London as well.

Thus far, the USA Olympic women's basketball team has destroyed their competition—so much so that it is almost laughable. They took out Croatia 81-56 and Angola 90-38, essentially rendering both opponents helpless after their contests. The rest of the field may be better than the Croatias and Angolas of the tournament, but how much better?

As it currently stands, Australia and Russia are the two biggest threats to Team USA's race for the gold medal. Throughout the the remainder of the preliminary round, Team USA takes on Turkey, Czech Republic and China. Let's take a look at each matchup.

Turkey is the European champion making their first Olympic appearance.

Through their first two games, they have defeated Angola (72-50) and Czech Republic (61-57). They have fared well thus far in the Olympics, but they have a tall order to fill if they want to take out the heavy favorites in Team USA.

With the Americans' experience in an atmosphere such as the Olympics, Turkey doesn't stand much of a chance against the top dogs in the chase.

Odds for USA victory: 90 %

Czech Republic

The Czech Republic lost to Turkey by four points—not a wide margin by any means, but it is rather notable when discussing odds.

If the Czechs can't take down Turkey, and Turkey is expected to fall to Team USA, where does that take us?

You guessed it: another USA victory, perhaps by a wide margin.

Odds for USA victory: 95 %

China is 3-0 through the preliminary round so far, knocking off the Czech Republic (66-57), Croatia (83-58) and Angola (76-52). They, much like Team USA, have asserted their dominance through their first three games.

If there is one team that has the potential to knock off the USA in the preliminary round, it's China. However, it is unlikely that the Dream Team of women's basketball drops a game so early in the tournament. They have the mindset and the determination to win the Olympic gold medal for the fifth time in a row.

Odds for USA victory: 80 %

Team USA, full of talented players such as Maya Moore, Diana Taurasi and Candace Parker will be tougher to take down than the men. That's saying a lot, considering the USA men's basketball team is expected to run away with the gold medal in London.

The gold medal is USA's for the taking, and they should advance past preliminary play without so much as a hiccup. Don't expect them to drop a game against Turkey, Czech Republic or China in the next few days.
