The world will fall in love all over again as the women of Team USA's soccer squad take center stage. Unfortunately for you guys out there, the beauty slashing down the pitch known as Alex Morgan is taken.
In fact, you might say she has a ton in common with her boyfriend: They both love soccer.
Morgan has known her boyfriend, Servando Carrasco, for four years, ever since she was a Freshman at Cal (Go Bears!).
Carrasco is a midfielder for MLS side Seattle Sounders, a team he convinced to take on Alex Morgan for the women's team.
The Seattle Times reports on a tumultuous time that turned quite fortuitous for the couple.
After her rise to stardom at the World Cup, the incessant interviews for Carrasco took their toll. The two finally aired out the issue and haven't looked back.
We talked about the attention I was getting and the interviews he was having to do about me, which I can understand would get frustrating. We had that one conversation and ever since then, it's been fine.
Some might argue her fame is exactly what made it so easy for her to become a part of the Women Sounders.
After the domestic Women's Professional Soccer league folded, Carrasco started lobbying for Morgan to come to Seattle and play for the Sounders Women. They could be together, he said, and wear the same jerseys. They could watch each other's games.
It was a lucky collision of circumstances. Carrasco ran the idea past the team's general manager, Amy Carnell. It was too good to pass up. This season, five U.S. national team members — Megan Rapinoe, Stephanie Cox, Sydney Leroux, Hope Solo and Morgan — are playing for the Sounders' W-League team amid their preparation for the Olympics.
I'm going to assume the Sounders cope quite well with that amount of firepower coming out onto the pitch for their women's fixtures.
The two seem to be quite enamored with one another, and are fortunate to have found a cozy niche they share in the Pacific Northwest.
They are truly a soccer power couple, and may be able to share in gold if all goes well.
