As we all know, Liverpool are in need of a tricky, pacy winger for next season, but there is a lot of debate as to who Brendan Rodgers should be chasing.

According to The Guardian, Liverpool are keen to place a £15 million bid for the young Theo Walcott, who looks precariously close to being forced out of the Arsenal lineup due to Arsene Wenger's summer spending spree.

Walcott, 23, is known for his blistering pace, but also for his sometimes not-so-blistering football IQ.

Despite this, Brendan Rodgers would regret not making a serious bid for the speedy Englishman.

Here's why Liverpool needs to break the bank to sign Theo Walcott.

Theo Walcott Knows the 4-3-3

Following the disappointing failure of Stewart Downing (who, yes, plays on the left side of the pitch) and the departures of Dirk Kuyt and Maxi Rodriguez, Liverpool are left without an established winger.

Especially now that Brendan Rodgers employs a 4-3-3, or a variation thereof, which eliminates the need for left and right midfielders. This puts Downing and Jordan Henderson, who played out of position on the right last season, in a difficult position.

Theo Walcott knows the 4-3-3 and could step in and make an impact immediately. Playing in his natural position without having to relearn the system would be an attractive quality to Rodgers.

Theo Walcott Is Young but Experienced

The signing of Theo Walcott would follow Brendan Rodgers' emphasis on developing young players.

The best part about Walcott is that he is already an established Premier League starter.

There would be no grooming Walcott to adapt to the Premier League's style of play. He's been playing with Arsenal since he was 17.

Rodgers would be getting his star winger for the future wrapped in a gift box with a big red bow on top.

Signing Theo Walcott Would Be a Huge Sign of Intent by Brendan Rodgers

Signing Fabio Borini from Roma was a great start to Brendan Rodgers' managerial career, but signing Theo Walcott would be a big step in winning over the Anfield faithful.

It would show that Rodgers is serious about building Liverpool up again, to make it the team it once was.

Fans have been calling for Liverpool to sign world-class players. If Rodgers could answer the call and sign Walcott, it would make Rodgers look very good indeed in the eyes of fans everywhere.

Theo Walcott Looks Like He Might Be Forced out of Arsenal Anyways

With Lukas Podolski now wearing an Arsenal shirt, Santi Cazorla reportedly on the way (via The Guardian) and already competing with the likes of Gervinho, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Andrei Arshavin (if he decides to stay at Arsenal), it looks like there might not be too much room at the Emirates for Theo Walcott.

At Liverpool, Walcott would get assured starting status, making him one of the big signings to take Liverpool back to the top.

With his contract running out at the end of next season, Arsene Wenger would be smart to cash in on Walcott now, especially if he keeps buying marquee attacking players.

Liverpool needs to sign Walcott before then, because once his contact is up, every team and their mother will be after his signature. Liverpool simply cannot compete financially with the likes of Manchester City, Chelsea, Juventus, etc.

Brenden Rodgers needs to send a serious offer for Walcott to the Emirates before the transfer window closes. It would do him a huge favor, both in terms of production on the pitch and making headway with the Kop.
