The Miz can now add Intercontinental Champion to his already impressive resume of WWE accomplishments, as he defeated Christian to win the title on the 1,000th episode of Raw.
The title win would normally seem like a good thing for a WWE superstar, but some might see it as a step down, as Miz was a WWE Champion for several months.
Miz is fresh off of filming a movie, and having him win a title after just a few appearances is certainly a sign that WWE still thinks of him as a valuable talent, but is he as valuable as he used to be?
When The Miz was WWE Champion, he was cruising the talk-show circuit and he was making headlines on the wrestling sites on a daily basis.
Over the last years, he seemed to have fallen from grace, as the amount of losses he suffered kept stacking up higher and higher.
One thing we have to remember is that winning the IC title after having been a WWE or World Champion is nothing new.
Rey Mysterio won the title after having been a World Champion and so did Ric flair, who captured it after having held the World title over a dozen times already.
If one were to be optimistic then this could be looked at as a stop-gap for Miz until the WWE title scene lightens up a bit.
Right now, we have the Champion CM Punk along with John Cena, Big Show and Daniel Bryan, who have all made it clear that the WWE title is their top priority.
Miz could be just being held back until the time is right to put him back in the hunt for the top title, or this could be a sign that he has been pushed back down to mid-card status like Jack Swagger was after holding the ECW and World titles very early in his career.
The Miz is without a doubt a very talented wrestler. He can put on a good match, keep up with almost anyone on the mic and is apparently strong enough in his performances to warrant WWE giving him the starring role in a film, albeit one that will most likely go straight to DVD.
Only time will tell what the future has in store for Mike Mizanin.
Do you think winning the IC title is a step backwards for Miz, or is it just the first step towards him climbing back to the top of the company?
