British Open 2012 Leaderboard: Updating the Early Action from Round 3

Jun 7, 2018

The major players atop the leaderboard won't tee off until around 10 a.m. ET, but the action is well under way for Round 3 of the British Open.

Here are the latest storylines surrounding the early Saturday morning action at Royal Lytham.

Tom Watson and John Daly were among the early starters for Saturday's action, and both played rounds that they'd rather forget.

Watson had one of the more memorable moments on Day 2 of the tournament, sinking a birdie putt on the 18th hole to make the cut, but struggled on Day 3 in shooting a 76. Watson finds himself nine over par for the tournament and 82nd on the leaderboard.

Fellow former British Open champion Daly saw similar struggles as he shot a 77 and finds himself 83rd on the leaderboard and 10 over par for the tournament.

Vijay Singh Sets the Bar at -2

Tour veteran Vijay Singh owns the best round of the day early on as he came in at two under par for today's 18.

Singh stayed under par by picking up birdies on holes 7, 8, 13 and 17. The round marked Singh's best effort of the tournament and has him at an even par for the tournament and T-29 on the leaderboard. While others are sure to beat Singh's score, it shows that the course is conducive to shooting a good round today.

Bubba Watson Among Early Movers

Among the golfers currently on the course, Bubba Watson appears the most poised to make a move up the leaderboard. Currently sitting at T-15, Watson has shot one under par through seven holes and appears to be rebounding rather nicely from shooting a 73 in round two of the tournament.

Watson was able to birdie both par threes on the front nine and is in a good position to shoot under par in the latter half of his round and move into the top ten.

With many golfers shooting at or around par in the early going conditions look good for an exciting round of golf from the tournament's leaders as the morning progresses.
