M'Baye Niang is one of the fastest rising talents in Europe. To keep him away from their rivals, Arsenal must acquire the 17-year-old French star.
Rumors are swirling that the Gunners have placed an official bid to take away the young striker from relegated Ligue 1 club FC Caen.
However, Arsenal isn't the only team that is attempting to sign the exciting Frenchman. The Premier League Champions, Manchester City, also have displayed interest, along with the Gunners' North London rivals Tottenham.
Each club is pushing hard to add the smooth striker, but for Arsenal’s current and future success, they must find a way to land Niang.
It has been rumored that Arsene Wenger has offered Caen a deal worth up to $6 million for the gifted Frenchman.
That's a lot of money for a player who has yet to play on a top-tier European squad, but he's worth it.
Niang is already a member of the French national team's under-21 squad and, despite his young age, is expected to be a contributing member to France's 2014 World Cup team.
The 17-year-old has shown outstanding control skills in and out of traffic. His ability on the ball is that of someone way beyond his years.
Niang is exactly the kind of heady and talented player that the Gunners need to add. He would bring a much needed scoring punch off of the bench, and could provide a currently lacking striking complement to Robert Van Persie.
Persie, who scored a team-high 30 goals last season, was the only Arsenal player to score in double digits in 2011-12. He led the team by 22 scores.
For a top-level team like Arsenal, this should never happen. This offseason, the Gunners must alleviate the issue by bringing in additional firepower.
Niang would provide that.
He's young and could grow with the team. He might not be an instant superstar, but given his skill set, he will become a world-class striker over time, and could provide the complement to Persie that is holding the Gunners back.
Niang is garnering interest from some of the top clubs in Europe, but Arsenal needs to ensure that he ends up playing his 2012-13 season with the Gunners.
