Arsenal Transfer Rumors: Gunners Wise to Pursue German Midfielder Lewis Holtby
Arsenal are smart to consider their potential future without both Robin van Persie and Theo Walcott by pursuing a young and promising midfielder to replace their expiring weaponry.
According to Darren Lewis of the Mirror, Arsenal have their eye on 21-year-old German Lewis Holty in anticipation of losing midfielder Theo Walcott, who has just one season left on his current contract with the club.
Walcott scored nine goals and tallied nine assists in all competitions for Arsenal last season, so there will certainly be a void left in the midfield if he ships off elsewhere within the next year.

Holtby, however, is capable of filling that void. He scored six goals for Schalke in 27 games in the Bundesliga last season.
There is no denying that he will be able to hold his own in the English Premier League, but can he become the star Arsenal would desire?
Most definitely.
Holtby's youth and room for growth would make him a quality asset for Arsenal. The native of West Germany burst onto the scene after signing with Alemannia Aachen in 2007. He scored eight goals for the club in 33 appearances from 2007 to 2009.
Holtby has continued to improve and please football fans at Schalke since joining the club in 2009. His two appearances for the German national team also speak to his talent on the ball.
Young, talented and plenty of potential. Those three qualities make Lewis Holtby a can't-miss addition for Arsenal.
It just happens to be a bonus that he is half-English.
