Arsenal Transfer News: Gunners Must Win Back Robin Van Persie on Preseason Tour

David DanielsMay 31, 2018

Time isn’t on the Gunners’ side.

All signs are pointing to Robin van Persie’s departure, but according to the latest Arsenal transfer news, hope hasn’t run out just yet. In order to bring Van Persie back, though, Arsene Wenger and the football club must take advantage of every waking moment with the striker to persuade him to return.

That includes their preseason tour to Asia.

Matt Law of Mirror Football reported that as long as Manchester City or another rival fail to acquire RVP this week, he’ll be headed east with the Gunners. There, he’ll play alongside the newly acquired Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud with the rest of his club for the first time. If his teammates show passion and the ability to win, Van Persie should rethink his threats.

According to the Associated Press, Van Persie, who’s in the final year of his deal, wrote on his official website that a contract extension isn’t in his near future. He said (via Washington Post):

"

I personally have had a great season, but my goal has been to win trophies with the team and to bring the club back to its glory days. I’ve thought long and hard about it, but I have decided not to extend my contract.

"

Now, according Bob Cass and Mark Ryan of the Daily Mail, Van Persie has accused Arsenal of “lacking ambition.”

This obviously isn’t about the money. Van Persie is simply hungry for a championship. The Gunners will have an opportunity on their preseason tour to prove to him that they share the same hunger.

Remember, this is a team that finished third in the Premier League standings last season despite the fact that Van Persie scored well over a third of the club’s goals. It shouldn’t be difficult to show that they’re significantly improved with notable signings of Podolski and Giroud. But heart, on the other hand, is something that can’t be compared on paper.

If Arsenal shows the desire to win on tour, they’ll be well on their way to winning back Van Persie. If they fail to show intensity, their superstar is as good as gone.
