According to TWNPNews.com (via F4Wonline), the WWE is very interested in working with current top UFC fighter Chael Sonnen, who, on Saturday night, was knocked out by Anderson Silva in their highly anticipated rematch.

A move to the WWE for Sonnen would likely force him to stop his fighting career. But he's 35 years old, and perhaps he feels like it's time to move on to a sport in which he isn't being punched in the face every day in the gym.

It could also be a potentially lucrative opportunity for Sonnen, which obviously could help sway his decision if he's offered a WWE contract.

Sonnen is good friends with WWE star CM Punk, as well as wrestling legend Steve Austin. He's been routinely taking trips out to Austin's ranch for strength and conditioning training. And Punk almost was a member of his entourage for his entrance a few months back, so clearly he knows them both very well.

So, with his clear ties to the WWE, it wouldn't be all that hard for Sonnen to make the transition. He's familiar with two of the big names in the sport, and they could ease his switch from the UFC to WWE and help advise him if he ever needed it.

What would make a move to the WWE for Chael Sonnen so interesting is that he's a great trash talker and is a true showman. In the lead-up to UFC 148, he berated Anderson Silva at every turn and was never shy in from of the cameras. He really talked a great game. Although he didn't necessarily back it up in the octagon, I'm sure the PPV numbers will reflect how well he sold the fight.

Drawing power is a very important thing in combat sports, and Sonnen will certainly be able to draw a crowd and put on a good show. Maybe he'll make the switch sooner rather than later, but Sonnen in the WWE gives them a bankable star who will help to build the sport and maybe even bring over some fans from the UFC.
