2009 QB Class Vs. 2010 QB Class

Being a Detroit Lions fans I have heard a lot of people debating whether or not we should draft a quarterback in this years class such as Stafford, Sanchez, or Freeman. Or if we should wait until next years class which has Tim Tebow, Sam Bradford, and Colt McCoy.

Them main difference between the two classes is this years class has the quarterbacks that play in pro-style offenses versus next years class which has quarterbacks coming from spread offenses.  I hear a lot of people say that the 2010 class is a whole lot better than this years.  I myself strongly disagree.

Lets start with Tim Tebow.  Unless you are John Grunden I can not see this man playing quarterback in the NFL.  He has never shown me the arm to be able to make the throws in the NFL and there is no way he will be able to run over everybody and have the physical presence he has in college. He has all the leadership skills and is one heck of a competitor. But I just can not see his skill set transferring well to the NFL.

Next there is Colt McCoy the quaterback out of the University of Texas.  With the body frame of 6'3" 210 lbs, he will need to add some bulk in the NFL but which is not impossible to do.  But he has never shown the ability to stretch the field by being able to throw the deep ball.  Also I have rarely seen him drop back to pass he usually sits from the shotgun in this offense.

Lastly there is the Heisman winner Sam Bradford.  He has the arm to make all the throws in the NFL but like McCoy he could use to add some strength to brush off defenders collapsing around him. Also the other knock him is that he also comes from the spread offense.  Bradford would have been up there with Stafford and Sanchez this year if he came out.

So in my opinion, this year's draft class has more potential to make more of an impact than next year's.  With the 2009 class having Stafford and Sanchez along with the fast rising stock of Freeman.  Meanwhile the 2010 class only has one maybe two legitimate NFL quarterbacks going in to the draft. But this is merely just opinion and yes Sanchez is a one year wonder maybe and Stafford does lack some constancy.  But I think the 2010 class has a lot more flaws than this years'.
