English Premier League Stars: Best of the Rest

Brendan O'NeillFeb 13, 2009

Being a Man Utd fan, it's pretty easy to name my favourite player—Solskjaer. That goal will always be remembered. But what you rarely see from fans nowadays (no matter who they support) is who their favourite players of other teams were.

I might not like the team at all, or despise the manager, but I have no problem in admitting when a player is good.

Here is a list of some of my favourite players from other teams;

Arsenal—Bergkamp—His footwork was amazing, but his football brain was even better. Goals against Argentina in '98 and the one against Newcastle come to mind.

Chelsea—Di Matteo—It took him 43 seconds to become a favourite. Forced to retire early at 31, unfortunatley.

Man City—Kinkladze—The best way I could describe him was the "Georgian Messi". The ball just seemed to stick to his feet. He might not have been blessed with pace, but his ball control was amazing.

Liverpool—Michael Owen—From 1998, to the FA Cup final against Arsenal, I don't think there was a more prolific goal scorer than him (though I could be wrong). His pace was frightening.

Tottenham—Ledley King—Any man that can get paid for playing no more than one match a week has to be admired. Ha Ha only kidding Spurs fans.

My real favourite would be—Klinsmann—He joined them on loan twice; the master of the dive and not a bad finisher aswell. (bit of an understatement that).

Newcastle—Shearer—Even though he rejected the mighty Man Utd twice (which wasn't the smartest move) how can you not respect the best goalscorer the Premiership has ever had?

Middlesbrough—Emerson—Granted, he might not have been the best buy, and most people would probably choose Juninho as their favourite Boro' fan, but Emerson just seemed to care more about entertaining than anything else.

West Ham—Paolo "Alcock's Worst Nightmare" Di Canio—He's best remembered for the bicycle goal, the skill, and the sheer class of the man.

Well I think that will do, if any of you want to list down some of your favourites, feel free to do so.
