Detroit Red Wings Need Ken Holland to Sign Marian Hossa, Not Johan Franzen

I'm sure when you first read the article title, you probably though it is easier said then done, but if anyone can do it, Ken Holland is that man.

Now, Detroit has had an up and down season so far. Sure, there record is as good as it always is, but if you look at the team GA you will realize things are not quite right and the blame should definitely not fall on the shoulders of the two goaltenders. Sure, there have been some struggles, but the defense and even the forwards have been lacking in our own zone.

Fast forward to the last three games, where this team has looked like the team of last year. Perfect defense, timely offense, and some pretty good goaltending to boot. All this has happened because of two things: Johan Frazen's injury and putting Henrik Zetterberg/Pavel Datsyuk on a line once again.

Datsyuk and Zetterberg were together for nearly the entire year last season and look what happened then, they have amazing chemistry and with Cleary at the right side they are a near perfect line. This team has looked much better as of late because Datsyuk has gotten Zetterberg on a hot streak now and they can do it all together.

Meanwhile, Franzen's injury has given us a glimpse of a line where Hossa is the only true big name player. With Filppula now the second line center and Leino on the other wing, Hossa has carried the line by himself, helping Leino and Filppula look good on the second line in the process.

Now, can Johan Franzen carry a line all by himself? I think not. Keeping Hossa ensures that Zetterberg/Datsyuk stay together, and with Cleary/Holmstrom/Filppula/Leino all signed to long term/cheap contracts, there is a surplus of players to choose from to play with our three superstars.

If Hossa can be convinced to sign a contract worth the same money as Henrik Zetterberg, then this scenario is definitely possible. Also, with a surplus of players in the minors who are NHL ready and on cheap contracts (Abdelkader, Helm, Ritola), the Wings will be set for a very long time if they get Hossa signed.

Tough decisions will be faced in the upcoming months, lets hope that this scenario is the one that plays out.
