Arsenal Transfer News: Wenger Is Spot on to Insist RVP Will Not Move to Juventus

Sam R. QuinnJun 7, 2018

Apparently, Arsene Wenger is a betting man.

According to Mirror Football, Wenger bet an Italian journalist a chocolate bar that Robin van Persie would not leave Arsenal for Juventus. The longest-tenured Arsenal coach said this:

"

There is no reason why a top player, a big champion would want a move to Serie A in terms of the prestige of the League, the level of play or financial considerations. If he moves there I will buy you a Caramello.

Wenger also said in the report that van Persie "will stay at Arsenal."

It remains to be seen whether RVP will be playing at The Emirates next season, but the Netherlands have been eliminated from the 2012 European Championship, meaning Van Persie may be looking to talk soon.

One thing is for sure, Van Persie will not be heading to Juventus if he wants to win a title he can look back on and be fulfilled with.

Yes, Van Persie wants more silverware, and Juventus finished atop Serie A last season, but would it be satisfying to win in an inferior league? I think not.

Van Persie recently said this, per the Telegraph:

"

I can only say that my intention is to play in the European Championship. And then go on to win the Champions League.

"

If he's going to follow the trophies, he's not going to leave for Juventus. He has a better chance at winning silverware with Arsenal than he would if he were to join Juventus.

The Dutchman made it clear that it's trophies he wants, not money. He can't expect the Gunners to go out and acquire every quality footballer in the world. Arsenal has already added Lukas Podolski to their roster and are now on the cusp of bringing Olivier Giroud to The Emirates.

Wenger and the front office have already added two very effective football players to their roster in moves that might have been done just to appease Van Persie.

They are clearly catering to his needs and want him to stay with the club. Van Persie hasn't made a post-Euro statement regarding his standing with Arsenal yet, but things will definitely become clearer once he goes public with his thoughts.

If Van Persie is true to his word, or at least a reasonable man, he should take a look at the Gunners' roster and come to the conclusion that they have what it takes to win the Premier League. He must remember that if not for a terrible start, Arsenal would have been in a much better position down the stretch of the season.

Wenger is a genius manipulator and master of the press. He's not one to mess around with situations of this gravity, and it's hard to think that he won't get his way in the end.
