Welcome to BR5, your daily source for sports and pop culture news.
Let’s face it. The TV Guide hasn’t been reliable, ever. So here at BR5 we’ve decided to give you a resource that you can trust if you decide to spend some time in front of a screen over the next seven days.
Obviously, we would prefer to suggest a sports movie if you’re headed to the local theater this weekend. Unfortunately, the options are limited right now. So we’ll deviate from sports a bit, and turn to filmmaker Ridley Scott and his new film Prometheus as the go-to if you’re craving a movie over the next few days. Prometheus stars Oscar winner Charlize Theron, Idris Elba and Michael Fassbender. Sci-Fi Fans and other film lovers will tell you Prometheus is a prequel to Alien. Scott has said that Prometheus isn’t a prequel to Alien, but said it does share Alien’s DNA. Either way, it looks awesome.
Getting back to sports, there’s a great event on tap for this weekend. Manny Pacquiao will fight (no not Floyd Mayweather Jr.) the undefeated Timothy Bradley Jr. Pacquiao is arguably the best boxer in the world. The fight will be yet another opportunity for all of us to see him in action. Unfortunately, the only guy who could legitimately contest Manny as the best boxer in the world probably won’t be able to watch him in action. Not sure that the Clark County Detention Center will order pay-per-view just for Floyd.
With the NBA Finals kicking off Tuesday, you’re going to want to record Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals on your DVR. LeBron and the Heat have one last chance at redemption as they face elimination in South Beach. The Celtics have been surging as of late, but had a bit of a letdown in Game 6 with a chance to close the Heat out at home. Look for a little extra intensity in Game 7 after Celtics fans fired a parting shot at LeBron when they dumped a beer on him as he headed back to the locker room.
