AC Milan Lose Ground on Title Chase: Juventus Relief!

Samuel DieudonneCorrespondent IFebruary 8, 2009

The lombardy based club, Milan lost further ground in its title chase yesterday when it drew Bottom side Reginna at home.

The game started very slow for both sides as they struggled to play free flowing football, or create good chances on goal.

Within a couple of minutes Milan started to apply pressure by passing the ball well in attack with interplay between the likes of Ronaldinho and Jankolovski whom were playing really well. but they never really threatened Reginna's goal however as the visiting team played mainly on the defensive.

Two great shots from Flamini and some good solo Ronaldinho plays were all the home side could really muster in the first half.

A few moments after that point, in the 33rd minute Milan on loan striker Di Gennaro shocked the San Siro by taking advantage of a slight hesitation at the back by Bonera and Maldini enabled him to put the ball in the net and shock everyone by scoring completely against the run of play, to put his side 1-0 going into the second half.

Milan started the second half in the same momentum as they left in the first, Beckham also elevated his play in the second half playing some good long balls looking for Pato and Kaka.

Clarence Seedorf scored a goal that was rightfully dissalowed, as he handled the ball before slaming it into the net from close range after Kaka hit the woodwork in the 60th minute.

Alexandre Pato looked dangerous up front as usual, drawing fouls with his dangerous pace and silky skills. It was through him that Milan equalised as his quick feet inside the area drew a foul which Kaka comfortably slotted in from the spot in the 67th.

Soon after that Kaka appeared to be in Pain and was substituted by Antonini, it is now confirmed that the Brazilian will miss fifthteen days on account of a muscular problem in his right foot. this news comes as a fatal blow to Milan who will surely miss him in the Derby next week, and Brazil who will now lineup without him against Italy in London come Tuesday.

That result now sees Milan sit in third, eight points behind Inter and two behind Juventus as the Turin Club somehow managed perform a miracle to beat Catania 2-1 after playing 80 minutes of the match a man down.

Christian Poulsen managed to break the deadlock for his side after Marimoto cancelled out Iaquinta's opener. the Striker had a great game alongside Amauri up front to trouble a relentless Catania defence.

Buffon had a phenomenal game between the post for his team as he had innumerable saves to keep his side in the contest, Camoranesi also had a great game coming back from Injury.

Milan now has thier work cut out for them ahead of next weeks derby, as Juventus on thier Part will try hard to keep up pace with the leaders.
