Timothy Bradley is extremely confident in himself and believes that he will beat Manny Pacquiao when the two fighters face off on June 9. But that overconfidence will only fuel Pacquiao's desire to rebound from his disappointing majority decision win over Juan Manuel Marquez in November.
Bradley is so overconfident that he has already started making up posters for the rematch—an obvious nod to the fact that he believes he will beat the Filipino southpaw.
Pacquiao has heard it all before and has faced guys who think they'll beat him. He's faced bigger, stronger and more experienced opponents before and taken them all down. Bradley's act won't trouble him much, except to provide more fuel to Pac-Man's fire.
Bradley should be approaching this fight by giving Pacquiao tons of respect and acting like he's lucky to be in the ring with the world's best pound-for-pound fighter. That way, if he rises up and does win, it will seem unexpected. Instead, he's basically poking a coiled snake.
I have always believed that you should never give an opponent in any sport bulletin-board material. Bradley obviously doesn't agree.
Pacquiao is one of the best to ever set foot in a boxing ring, so Bradley's taunts and confidence are disrespectful to an eight-division world champion who has risen to every challenge he has faced.
According to the Desert Sun, Bradley told the media, "Tune in on June 9 when I destroy Manny Pacquiao."
Pacquiao has rededicated himself to the sport and cut out all of his distractions for this fight. But I'm fairly certain that trainer Freddie Roach will let him know what Bradley has been saying. And that will only make Pacquiao even more motivated to smoke the undefeated Bradley when they square off.
