UFC Lightweight Rankings: BJ Penn Tops 10 Best Fighters

1. BJ Penn

Penn is among the world's elite fighters. He has amazing jiu jitsu and boxing with great takedown defense. He is coming off a crushing loss to welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre and will look to defend his lightweight title against Kenny Florian later this year.


2. Kenny Florian

Season one finalist Kenny Florian has been on quite a streak since losing a title fight to Sean Sherk. Florian has won six straight fights, including a win over Joe Stevenson.


3. Sean Sherk

Sean Sherk is a former lightweight champion. His only losses have come against former welterweight champions BJ Penn, Matt Hughes, and Georges St-Pierre. He will fight Frankie Edgar in March.


4. Clay Guida

Guida is currently on a three-fight win streak, recently beating Nate Diaz via split decision. Clay is an outstanding wrestler and has a pace that few can keep up with.


5. Tyson Griffin

At only 24 years old, Tyson Griffin is one of the most well-rounded fighters in this division. He has four fight of the night bonuses under his belt. He is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Sean Sherk.


6. Nate Diaz

Season five winner Nate Diaz has a record of 5-1 in the UFC. He recently lost to Clay Guida via split decision.


7. Gray Maynard

Gray Maynard is undefeated in the UFC at 4-0 with one no contest. He is scheduled to face Jim Miller at UFC 96 in March.


8. Joe Stevenson

Winner of season two of The Ultimate Fighter, Joe Stevenson has gone 1-2 in his last three fights, losing to Kenny Florian and BJ Penn. He is scheduled to fight Diego Sanchez at the end of February.


9. Frankie Edgar

Having a record of 4-1 in the UFC, Edgar is coming off a dominating win over Hermes Franca. He will look to take on his toughest fight to date in Sean Sherk.


10. Joe Lauzon

Season five contestant Joe Lauzon is scheduled to fight Jeremy Stephens on Feb. 7. He is coming off a TKO win over Kyle Bradley.
