This time last year, everyone in NASCAR was calling Hendrick Motor Sports the ultimate dream team, saying it was set for domination.
You could never ask for a race team with better talent, and so much potential, with three-time champion Jimmie Johnson, four-time champ Jeff Gordon, and NASCAR's most popular driver six years running, Dale Earnhardt, Jr.
Well, they just got better.
The addition of crafty veteran Mark Martin just brought an already dominant HMS team to heights never before seen in NASCAR history.
Martin brings a different kind of swagger and personality to HMS that will be embraced, and very much wanted around the shop and at track. He also brings a very determined mindset to win the "The Great American Race" at Daytona on Feb. 15.
Most importantly though, he wants to win the very elusive championship. That kind of determination will raise the competition at HMS and make everyone want to work that much harder.
Martin is rejuvenated. He is going to be an early favorite to run up front, a contender at the Daytona 500, and a threat to win the championship.
What scares me is that Mark Martin will make Johnson, Gordon, and Earnhardt Jr. even better. That's pretty good for a group of drivers that are among the most talented in the world.
This will be a year forever marked in the NASCAR history books once the season comes to a close in November. All four Hendrick cars will finish in the top seven in the Chase, and two will finish in the top three. This is a season for the record books.
Get ready, NASCAR fans. We are in for a little treat this year.
Sit back and enjoy the ride. Here comes "Dream Team" HMS.
