Manchester United: Top 5 Goals from 2011-12 Season

0 of 6

Much has already been made of Manchester United's season and their failure to win a single top-tier trophy, but more so about the way they squandered their chance at the English Premier League title over the final six weeks of the tournament.

And whilst the pains of watching Roberto Mancini's men lift high the Premier League trophy are still all too real, we must remember that Manchester United's season was not a failure. It might not have been the success that we all dreamed of, but it certainly wasn't a failure.

Here's the top five goals form the 2011-12 season to remind us of the success that the Red Devils still had during the year.

Honorable Mentions

1 of 6

Before we get stuck in to it, there are three goals that deserve honorable mentions.

One was Nani's goal against Chelsea, another was Ashley Young's goal against Blackburn and the other was Young's goal against Tottenham Hotspur—all were phenomenal finishes and could have easily found their way on to this list.

However, five goals it is, and they were the three for me that missed the cut.

So what were the top five goals of the year then?

5. Ryan Giggs vs. Norwich City

2 of 6

As far as memorable goals go, they don't come much bigger than Ryan Giggs' finish against Norwich City.

In his 900th game—yes, 900th—Giggs scored the winning goal in injury time to give the Red Devils a memorable victory and three valuable points.

Though I'm not quite sure why he didn't just use his right foot.

4. Wayne Rooney vs. Athletic Bilbao

3 of 6

I've tried searching everywhere for an this goal, but can only find it in this compilation, where the goal starts at 3:03. If you have found it, let me know and I'll post it up!

Having said that, incredible finish from Wayne Rooney despite United's elimination.

3. Wayne Rooney vs. Fulham

4 of 6

The goal you wants starts at 0:35 during United's 5-0 romp over Fulham.

Rooney picked up the ball and the middle of the field and did exactly what everyone thought he would—bang it home with incredible power and skill.

2. Ashley Young vs. Arsenal

5 of 6

The only thing greater than scoring the opening goal against Arsenal at Old Trafford is scoring a sensational goal against Arsenal at Old Trafford.

    Ashley Young certainly did that.

1. Antonio Valencia vs. Blackburn Rovers

6 of 6

Close game. Final 10 minutes. Tight angle. Plenty of defenders.

All of that didn't seem to matter to Antonio Valencia whose incredible finish against Blackburn truly was one of the top finishes of the year for the Red Devils.

    Cross gone wrong? Hardly.

Just the best goal of the year for Manchester United.
