WWE Raw: 4 Big Things Tensai Should Do to Save His WWE Career
For the gazillionth time on WWE Monday Night Raw, the fans in attendance chanted "Albert" during Tensai's three-on-two handicap lumberjack match. For those who do not know, Tensai (real name Matt Bloom) was formerly known in the WWE as Albert/A-Train.
Ultimately, fans have not been kind to Matt Bloom since he returned to the WWE.
In an obvious attempt to get over with the fans, Tensai has gotten rid of his entrance mask and robe, as well as his "Lord" prefix. Tensai also walks to the ring much faster and wrestles quicker and less methodically than before.
Did the changes help Tensai last night?
Let's just say that if they did, I wouldn't be writing this article.
With that said, let's take a look at four things Tensai could do to become more popular with WWE fans and ultimately save his career.
Tensai Should Lose Some Weight
1 of 4Last week, I watched the A-Train and Big Show vs. Undertaker match from WrestleMania 19 and I was surprised at how fit A-Train (Tensai) looked compared to today.
It's not easy to lose weight, especially when you become older.
However, losing any amount of weight would greatly help Tensai. It's hard to look intimidating when you've got a big belly.
Tensai Should Change His Ring Attire
2 of 4In the documentary, Beyond The Mat, Hall of Fame announcer Jim Ross told wrestler Tony Jones to "get something that's a little more flattering for you," regarding Jones' ring attire.
Ultimately, it's important to have ring attire that enhances one's appearance.
Ryback's attire makes his upper body look larger than it really is. Andre The Giant's single-strap black attire helped hide his big belly.
Ultimately, if Tensai cannot lose some weight, perhaps he should get new, more flattering attire that will hide his belly.
Tensai Should Embrace the Hate
3 of 4As Kane would eloquently say, Tensai should "embrace the hate," aka the "Albert" chants. Tensai or his sidekick Sakamoto should tell the fans that Albert, the former self-deprecating "Hip-Hop Hippo," is dead and that he died in Japan—where Tensai was born—like a Phoenix rising from the ashes.
Before Tensai can win over the crowd, he must confront the fans and his past. WWE needs to sell the transformation which Albert underwent in Japan. Having Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler mention that Tensai is a former WWE star and that he dominated the competition in Japan is not enough. WWE needs to recognize Tensai's unsuccessful past before they can attempt to establish his dominant future.
Tensai should confront the fans just as Rocky Maivia confronted the fans. For those who do not know, Rocky Maivia confronted the fans and became the people's champ, The Rock.
Tensai Should Interact with the Fans
4 of 4During the Batista vs. John Cena match at Extreme Rules 2010, a kid in the audience yelled "I hate you Batista!"
Instead of ignoring the fan, Batista yelled back at the fan, saying "I hate you, too!"
There are countless other examples of heel wrestlers interacting with the fans and getting easy heat in the process—such as R-Truth reacting to "what?" chants by saying, "don't 'what?' me!" and Mr. McMahon reacting to "A**hole" chants by telling the crowd to "shut up!"
Instead of reacting to the fans' "Albert" chants, Tensai has been ignoring them. Bad move. Nobody likes to be ignored.
Here's an idea, Mr. Tensai:
Next time the fans chant "Albert" during your match, get extra furious. Scowl at the fans, yell at them and inflict extra punishment on your opponent(s). Whatever you do, don't ignore the fans!
Thanks for reading! What do you think? What do YOU believe Tensai can do to get over with the WWE Universe?
