Preakness Lineup 2012: I'll Have Another, Maroon 5, Kegasus and Top Attractions
With the 2012 Preakness Stakes Saturday, May 19, the talk about the fun that surrounds the 137th annual event is focused on some of the biggest attractions of the year.
The Triple Crown is the biggest aspect of every racing season, but this year’s Preakness is much more than a two-minute horse race; it’s an adventure!
All of the following aspects of this weekend’s events will have fans ready to travel to Pimlico Race Course and get their own piece of the action. If you are thinking about going, do yourself the favor and make the trip.
I’ll Have Another’s Triple Crown Chase
For all the pure horse racing fans in this world, there is nothing that can compare to the excitement of the chase for another Triple Crown winner.
While I’ll Have Another isn’t the traditional kind of horse that could steal three major races in a row, the most unlikely stories happen in horse racing. Sometimes they happen three times in a row.
As much as the oddsmakers will stack the deck against the strong running horse, the thinned out field gives horse racing enthusiasts a real hope that I’ll Have Another could steal the Preakness.
Maroon 5 and Wiz Khalifa
With the Kentucky Derby stealing most of the spotlight from the other legs of the Triple Crown, the good people at Pimlico Race Course were not going to be out done.
For the fans that will be there all weekend, the race track is providing live entertainment in the form of Grammy award winners Maroon 5 and rapper Wiz Khalifa.
If horse race is trying to reach a younger audience that is not as interested in the sport as the generations before, getting mainstream stars and making it a party is the right move. Speaking of parties…
Kegasus and the Spirit of Infield Fest
There is no better part of any live event than the fun there is to be had drinking with your fellow man. That fun only intensifies when that man is also half Pegasus. Please meet Kegasus!
The resident horse racing infield leader of the free world, Kegasus delivers cheer to the people enjoying themselves on the infield before, during and after the Preakness stakes. They call this party Infield Fest.
If you can imagine a football tailgating party, but instead of in a parking lot it’s in the middle of a horse racing track, that’s what you get at the Preakness. It’s more comparable to a NASCAR infield than anything else in terms of partying.
No matter how you think about it, it’s something that has to be experienced to be believed.
