Most people celebrated Mother's Day by getting their mom flowers or presents or other gifts of that nature. Some, like New York Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora, chose to take a different route, and used Mother's Day as an excuse to call out another NFL player, specifically Philadelphia Eagles running back LeSean McCoy. Umenyiora tweeted:

Sick burn! It's funny because he's implying McCoy is a GIRL and girls are LAME AND WIMPY AND SUCK AT FOOTBALL. LOL!! Sexism and cyber-bullying are always hilarious, even on such impersonal forms of communication as Twitter. The McCoy-Umenyiora beef dates back almost a full year, when McCoy tweeted (sensing a trend here?) this:

OH DAMN. LeSean wasn't down with Osi filing affidavits while the NFL was locked out for some reason, so he took to Twitter to express his displeasure. Now, there is really no good reason for LeSean to take offense to this, other than the Eagles and Giants being geographic rivals, but this made Osi mad because Osi Umenyoria is SO not soft:

Again, rampant sexism! Comedy! Osi seems like the elementary schoolyard bully who thinks calling people "girls" is funny because he doesn't know any better and can't think of a better retort. Osi commented on the issue with McCoy in November, and appeared to have moved on from the petty dispute:

What he did was unforgivable. Because whenever you see a man in a contract dispute—a fellow NFL player—you don’t take that opportunity to take your shots at him. You wait until you’re about to play him, then you take your shots. We’ve had our problems. I’ve moved past it.

Osi apparently has not moved past it, and seemed to hatch some kind of six-month plan culminating in him wishing LeSean a "Happy Mother's Day" over Twitter, because that truly is the best way to get back at someone. LeSean cryptically responded with this yesterday:

Oh, now it's on, I guess. That tweet doesn't make a whole lot of sense, because as noted above, the "beef" has been going on for a year, but whatever. This dispute seems to be more Internet-based than anything else, mainly because the only actual conflict has taken place over Twitter. This is the way the world works now, I suppose, but at least it's some sort of offseason entertainment, and we could all stand to have a little more of that.

Keep it up LeSean and Osi. Continue whatever it is you are continuing.
