Joey Barton: QPR Captain Cheap Shots Sergio Aguero After Receiving Red Card

Nicholas GossJun 7, 2018

Queens Park Rangers captain Joey Barton completely lost his mind when he kicked Manchester City forward Sergio Aguero just after receiving a red card for elbowing City forward Carlos Tevez in the chin.

BBC Sport explained the situation via Twitter.

"

Joey Barton, having already been sent off, kicks Sergio Aguero and then scuffles with Mario Balotelli as he is led off.

Here is the video of Barton's red card and the action that immediately followed.

Barton has a history of dangerous tackles and red cards, but we rarely see him throw a tantrum like he did at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

Not only did Barton throw a vicious elbow on Tevez, he cheap-shotted Aguero and argued with several other City players including Mario Balotelli before leaving the pitch.

As captain, Barton has to keep his composure for his club in a match with a lot at stake. QPR is battling Bolton to stay out of the final of three relegation spots in the Premier League table.

It will be very interesting to see how the FA handles this Barton incident. He has to be suspended for several matches next season because this aggressive behavior has no place in football.

The FA needs to make an example out of Barton because players can sustain a serious injury from actions like his.

Given his past history combined with Sunday's events, a multi-match ban starting next season must be enforced. A ban lasting several months long might be the only way for Barton to change the way he plays.
