Tiger Woods Will Collapse at 2012 Players Championship

Jun 7, 2018

While there is no questioning just how great Tiger Woods has been over his career, the consistency of his struggles is just as undeniable.

There is no reason to believe that the 2012 Players Championship will be any different.

As good as a two-under is heading into the weekend for Woods at TPC Sawgrass, there is little doubt that fans, golfers and Tiger himself are waiting on the inevitable collapse. While Woods will try to avoid it, his broken psyche always rears its ugly head at some point on big weekends.

Woods is under an immense amount of scrutiny, but every golfer under the sun has added their two cents to the situation. Instead of worrying about his run through the weekend, Tiger has been defensive about questions concerning his swing and swing coaches.

Woods told CBS Sports about his coaches and their purposes and why he isn’t comfortable on the course right now:

"

I've always had a coach. I've always done this.

When I get into what Sean wants me to do with my old setup, where I'm comfortable, then I can hit an array of shots, because obviously my grip has changed, my posture and how I move through the golf ball is completely different. So that's where I get into the problems.

Now, if I get completely uncomfortable and put myself in a position where it feels just awful, I hit it pure. So there's where I'm developing in the swing. It was the same way at Bay Hill, where I was just committed to just feeling awful over the ball, and I hit it great.

I've been through it with Butch, I've been through it with Hank, and you get through stages like this, go through periods like this. We've all done it. It's just I'm in it right now.

"

Good thing he isn’t focused on the task at hand!

After switching coaches many the times over the course of his career, Woods has been accused of thinking too much by other golfers. Whether their opinions are warranted or not, the points these experts make are valid.

Tiger hasn’t been the same man since his divorce, and trying too hard on the golf course is as bad as not trying at all. If the legend can’t find peace in his life, he will not be able to find peace at the golf course.

All the added pressure from the media and fellow golfers, as well as the pressure of entering the weekend tied for 35th overall while playing as well as he has, will shatter Woods' already fragile self-esteem.

Tiger’s blowups are as predictable now as his wins once were.
