Mayweather vs. Cotto Results: Cotto Proves He's Worthy of Rematch
Floyd Mayweather vs. Miguel Cotto lived up to expectations as the fight went 12 rounds with Mayweather winning by decision. Cotto made "Money" Mayweather work for this victory as he even made him bleed from his mouth and nose at one point in the fight.
The boxing world is dying to get a fight between Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao. However, that fight seems less likely to happen with each passing day. The fight between those two would be an epic match that will probably go down as the most watched in boxing history.
The match with Cotto did bring in a lot of viewers and the fight was good all the way to the very end. There was a good combination of speed and power, which is always good to see. Cotto proved to be one of Mayweather's toughest opponents and that he is capable of taking him down.
Cotto had Mayweather on the ropes for a good part of the match and seemed to have him in a bad position. Mayweather's ability to fight well while on the ropes is what saved him in this fight.
Through 11 rounds in the fight, Mayweather looked beaten. It was a look that has never been seen before and one that surprised everyone. Money's stamina really came through with an excellent final round that put the finishing touches on his victory.
The talks have already begun for the Mayweather/Pacquiao fight to happen after Floyd gets out of jail. The reason we want to see them fight is because it gives Mayweather an opponent that will truly challenge him. He has beaten many fighters with ease and it can get pretty boring, despite the fact that his bout with Cotto was anything but.
With more training and a fight to watch on tape, Cotto will be able to prepare better and provide an even more entertaining rematch. He has proven that he can fight with the best in boxing and needs to be given a second chance against Mayweather.
With both Pacquiao and Mayweather seemingly avoiding each other, Mayweather should be quick to accept a rematch against Cotto, as beating him twice will add another notch on his resume. For Cotto, it provides him with a chance to get his title back and prove he is capable of beating Mayweather.
As for the fans, it will give us another chance to watch an epic fight between two of the best boxers in the world.
