Derek Jeter told the media yesterday what souvenir he took from the old Yankee Stadium. He took the Joe DiMaggio sign that was in the tunnel leading to the Yanks’ dugout. It was the sign that read: “I want to thank the Good Lord for making me a Yankee,”

He admitted that he took the sign, and some other items.

Jeter was also questioned about the upcoming season…

"

On the subject of the team that will take the new Yankee Stadium field next season, Jeter was not buying into the belief that the Yankees had purchased a ticket to the World Series by spending wildly on free agents.

“You get rings for that, for being the champions of winter?” he said.

He added, “Think about it, every year we have a good team on paper. Unfortunately, you don’t win for having good players on paper. But you do appreciate the Steinbrenner family trying to get great players.”
