WWE Hall of Famer and 11-time WWE World Champion Edge is reportedly going to allow his current WWE contract to expire and has not signed the new offer he has received from the WWE. (h/t Ring Side News)
Edge, whose real name is Adam Copeland, has been under contract with WWE since his debut in 1997. He is currently under the performance contract he received when he was still an active wrestler. Here is the official statement according to Ringsidenews.com:
"It appears that Edge is going to let his contract with WWE expire on Monday. The 2012 WWE Hall of Famer was reportedly offered a new deal to remain exclusive to the company and didn't sign it."
Further proof of Edge's decision to not re-sign with WWE is the fact that he is scheduled to appear for Resistance Pro Wrestling on May 11th, 2012 in Chicago, Illinois where he is being billed as the "special guest". Here is the official statement according to Ringsidenews.com:
"Edge is scheduled to make an appearance at the May 11th Resistance Pro event in Chicago, IL. This will be his first appearance outside of WWE in many years. Edge is being billed as a "special guest" at the event.
The May 11th event will be headlined by champion Harry Smith vs. Rhino, who has strong ties to Edge dating back many years."
How disappointed are you that Edge did not re-sign with WWE?
Edge was forced to retire on the April 11th, 2011 edition of WWE Monday Night Raw. He cited that the cause for his unexpected retirement was cervical spinal stenosis which had gotten so bad that WWE doctors would not allow him to compete anymore. Since that day, Edge has made sporadic appearances for WWE in a non-active way cutting promos and being a special guest.
Edge was just recently on the April 23rd, 2012 edition of WWE Raw SuperShow in an effort to light a fire under John Cena before his big match against the returning Brock Lesnar at WWE Extreme Rules. During the promo he admitted that he is no longer going to be an employee of the WWE and did not go into any more detail than that. It was reported that the reason for having Edge on the show was to bring him into Detroit (the site of that episode's Raw) to have contract negotiation with him. Here's the official statement:
"As noted earlier, WWE had Edge in Detroit, Michigan last night for contract negotiations. His appearance on RAW and segment with John Cena was scripted into the show at the last minute. Also as noted before, WWE officials were upset when news of Edge's contact expiring hit the Internet. When the news came out, they sent John Laurinaitis scrambling to bring Edge into RAW for face-to-face contract negotiations."
Edge is one of my all-time favorite wrestlers and I am shocked he did not re-sign with WWE especially since WWE just inducted him into the WWE. You would think they would be on great terms.
Unfortunately, in the kind of place we live today, business is business and Edge might be taking his somewhere else.
