There have been many rumors as to who will be Brock Lesnar's next opponent in the WWE after John Cena. We've heard names from The Rock to C.M. Punk to even Sheamus. However, earlier today Ring Side News reported that the newest thought was to have Brock Lesnar face arguably the next top man in the WWE, Randy Orton.

Not only was it rumored that Lesnar would feud with Orton, but it was also rumored to take place around the summer so that their match could take place and main event in arguably the second-largest pay-per-view of the year, SummerSlam. Here is the official statement from Ring Side News:

There has been debate over who would be Lesnar's perfect WrestleMania opponent as Steve Austin and The Undertaker would also fit.

On a related note, the idea of Lesnar vs. Randy Orton main eventing this year's SummerSlam pay-per-view was thrown around this past week.

Now this was just a rumor earlier today, but since this post, Ring Side New has confirmed that it is indeed WWE's plan, at least at this point, for Brock Lesnar to make his way onto the Viper. Here is the official statement confirming their earlier report:

We noted earlier that a Brock Lesnar vs. Randy Orton feud for SummerSlam was discussed recently within WWE. Apparently that is the current plan in place. Lesnar will begin feuding with Orton after John Cena unless things change.

This tells us a couple things about WWE's plans for Brock Lesnar. First of all, I believe this says that Brock Lesnar will not only win his feud against John Cena but will dominate his feud against John Cena, because why else would Lesnar go from feuding with the top guy in the WWE (John Cena) to arguably the second in Randy Orton?

WWE is serious about Brock Lesnar, and they are serious about him becoming the face of the WWE and adding some "legitimacy" to the WWE. As the "Nature Boy" Ric Flair once said, "If you wanna be the man, you gotta beat the man!" And that appears to be what WWE is going to do with the "War Machine."

If WWE ends up going this route, having Lesnar defeat both John Cena and Randy Orton in respective feuds, then it only makes sense for WWE to have Brock Lesnar face The Rock at next year's WrestleMania in New Jersey because The Rock beat John Cena, proving he is without a doubt the top guy in the WWE, at least when he's there.
