Calvin Johnson has been named the cover athlete for the 2013 edition of the Madden video game franchise.

Johnson's selection comes after defeating numerous superstars during the course of the bracket.

In the first round, Megatron beat Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Dwayne Bowe after receiving an astonishing 92 percent of the vote.

The second round saw Johnson amass 73 percent of the vote over Houston Texans running back Adrian Foster.

Johnson's run continued when he scored 63 percent of the votes against New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski.

The biggest surprise came in the fourth round when Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers was expected to beat the Detroit Lions star.

Instead, Johnson took home 67 percent of the vote and advanced to the finals against Cam Newton.

Newton proved to be a formidable foe and even posted a rather humorous video about his candidacy for the title.

But in the end he proved no match for Megatron.

So are there any fears of the so-called "Madden Curse"?

Not so much.

"I'm not a big guy for curses and I don't even think about it," said Johnson in an interview with The Detroit News.

The curse will certainly be put to the test this year.

Johnson is coming off the best season of his career, with 96 catches for 1,681 yards and 16 touchdowns.
