Last Monday, I reported on two rather odd comments made by Wade Barrett's Twitter. His account, which had been dormant since March 2nd, made two comments. These comments indicated that his account was now under the control of attorney Peter Lazarou.
A poll on the article suggested that most of the readers felt this was the beginning of a new storyline for the Manchester, England local. It appears that those people were correct, as a new message from his account today seems like an extension of his in-ring persona rather than his actual opinion.
In order to end any speculation relating to his motives behind the engagement of an attorney for the purpose of social media management,my client, Mr. Barrett, has instructed me to inform the general public that his reasoning is, essentially, two-fold. To wit: (i) time constraints, and (ii) a diminished tolerance of the hoi polloi. Regards, Peter Lazarou, Esq.
To save you searching for the meaning of "hoi polloi," I have already done so. The term is Greek and roughly translates into "the many." It is also a derogatory term, with its closest English counterpart being "the unwashed masses."
So it appears that when Barrett returns, he will be playing an Englishman with a superiority complex. I have to admit, that is not exactly an original route to take a talent such as Barrett. The winner of NXT Season 1 was doing such a great job of getting his Barrett Barrage over before being injured that it seems rather foolish to give up on it.
There is also a danger that such a gimmick will fall into familiar territory. It will only take a few false crowds that won't react to his character and WWE Creative will make him rely on cheap heat. In this case, they make him target the audience based on their nationality.
Considering how well Barrett was doing before his injury, though, I will at least give him a chance to get this gimmick over—if this is the route his character is going. Plus, it will be interesting to see if Peter Lazarou could end up being an actual character to compliment Barrett.
More importantly, does this mean Wade is expected to make a return sooner than expected? He is at least due to be out for another couple of months, but if all is well, then maybe he could be on his way back before we know it.
Once again, this could be a situation worth following.
