Is 2009 The Year For Truex or Earnhardt?

Meegan SweeneyContributor IJanuary 26, 2009

When I think of a list of possible drivers to make good this year, as opposed to last, I can come up with two of my favorites:

Martin Truex, Jr. and Dale Earnhardt, Jr.

Truex has won in the past, has also won two Busch Championships.  The only thing I see holding this New Jersey native back, is the company that is now Earnhardt-Ganassi.

Granted, Chip Ganassi has a great reputation in the IRL and F1, but it remains to be seen, if his team can improve or make DEI better.  Truex, it seemed, reluctantly resigned with DEI, after much negotiation.

He still has his sponsor, still has his crew chief, Kevin "Bono" Manion.

That's great.

Now, if the equipment and management could improve?

I think he'll be in the chase and win more than he's ever won in Cup.

Earnhardt, Jr., with only one win at Michigan last year, didn't have much to compete against with teammate, Jimmie Johnson.

Junior, thy name isn't consistency.

I think that in order to improve, he needs to get the cars right into the groove and he will have to get rid of his crew chief, Tony Eury, Jr.

Both can win, as their teams have the engine power — no doubt.

I think either will do their teams proud on Feb. 15th.
