SEC Football Top 150 Players: No. 133, Jacques Smith, Tennessee LB
Starting April 2, the SEC Blog will be counting down the top 150 players for 2012 in the SEC.
No. 133: Jacques Smith, No. 55, Linebacker, Tennessee
2011 Stats: 35 tackles, one sack, eight TFLs, one forced fumble.
Strengths
Smith came in with a ton of hype, and was regarded by some services as the top player in the state of Tennessee in 2010. He spent his first two seasons as a defensive end, and has the athleticism to be star in the SEC.
Weaknesses
You hope that the scars from last season don't linger for Smith. He struggled as Tennessee's starting defensive end for most of the season, but still managed to finish ninth on the team with 35 tackles.
2012 Prediction
Smith has bulked up to around 255 pounds and will play as a "jack" outside linebacker this season for new defensive coordinator Sal Sunseri's 3-4 scheme. He seems to be adjusting well to the new role during spring practice. He will be a big contributor for the Vols this season.
