Manchester United Transfers: 5 Reasons Why Mario Balotelli Would Be a Success

Bimersha GautamApr 19, 2012

Mercurial Mario Balotelli.

Ever since Mario Balotelli burst onto the footballing stage, he has bemused us with his antics, frustrated us with his childlike behavior and provided much-needed comic relief throughout.

He is a phenomenal player, but his on-field and off-field actions are indeed too much to handle. Roberto Mancini is one such person who has reportedly had enough of his behavior and might look to offload him over the summer.

As a Manchester United fan, I have been an ardent admirer of his talents, and I always thought he might fit well at United. The transfer window might provide Sir Alex Ferguson with an opportune moment to swoop in and sign the striker.

Here are five reasons why Mario Balotelli would be a success at Old Trafford.

Entertainment and Brand Value

It cannot be doubted that Mario Balotelli is a true entertainer in the game. From his Bibotelli incident to the iconic "Why Always Me" T-Shirt, Balotelli always seems to be up to something.

I, for one, would welcome this sort of comic relief at Old Trafford.

Furthermore, Balotelli is an established brand, and in most likelihood, his transfer fees would be recuperated by the sales of his shirt.

He Is a Phenomenal Player

Mario Balotelli is certainly an A-grade footballer.

In only 14 appearances this season, he has amassed 13 goals in the Premier League, while he has scored twice and assisted once during Manchester City's short stint at the UEFA Champions League this season.

His footballing skills are certainly there: his finishing is particularly strong, and he can dribble quite exquisitely.

Furthermore, he is also versatile, capable of operating as an attacking midfielder or a deep-seated forward.

He Is Young and Experienced

Mario Balotelli is only at the tender age of 21. Yet, he has already amassed a lot of experience playing with two superb teams in Inter Milan and Manchester City.

With Manchester City, he has garnered Premier League experience, which will allow for a smoother transition.

Such a rare blend of youth and experience coupled with phenomenal talent is indeed hard to come by these days, and snagging up Mario Balotelli will signal a strong intent to challenge for Europe next season.

He Could Solve United's Midfield Problems

How many times have we heard that United's midfield looked complacent, that they shelled out a lackluster performance?

Sure, Paul Scholes coming out of retirement has done wonders for United, but how long will he be around?

By bringing in an already finished product like Mario Balotelli, Sir Alex can deploy Wayne Rooney at a much deeper position, operating either as a central midfielder or attacking midfielder. I, personally, believe that Rooney is suited for that role very much, as he can dictate the game with more proficiency from that position.

This leaves United with three capable striking options—Javier Hernandez, Danny Welbeck and Mario Balotelli.

Balotelli's presence allows for room to implement versatile tactics.

Sir Alex Ferguson

When you are dealing with someone like Mario Balotelli, you have a fair share of headaches. He seems to be uncontrollable at times, shows disrespect to his club and fellow squad members and gets embroiled in controversy far too often.

But Ferguson is one person who knows a thing or two about bringing changes about in people like Mario Balotelli.

Remember Kung-Fu Catona? Or Roy Keane?

Even United's talisman, Wayne Rooney, has had a host of disciplinary problems over the years.

I am of the opinion that Mario Balotelli's disciplinary problems will gradually wane down, while his footballing prowess will increase under the tutelage of Sir Alex.
